ENERGETIC® series combines protection of the environment and ease of service

Innovations in the field of environmental protection quickly produce successful results if, in addition to conserving resources, they also bring business and economic benefits. These two requirements are met perfectly by Hengst’s ENERGETIC® system, available exclusively from ZF Trading UK. Not only is the amount of oil lost during a vehicle oil filter change reduced by approximately 90 percent, the time required for the service is also shortened. The total system costs are also lower than for conventional solutions.

For the ENERGETIC® system, Hengst’s development engineers have concentrated on integrating different functions that were previously grouped at distributed points on the vehicle engine in a single multi-function module. The result is a more compact and thus lightweight unit. Attention is paid to conserving resources as early in the process as during the fabrication of such a module. Optimum logistics and installation costs also contribute to significant cost savings and greater efficiency.

The environmental strengths of Hengst’s development efforts become particularly apparent in the replacement of the oil filter, because the multi-filter housing remains attached to the engine for its entire life cycle. Only the dirty filter element, which is made of cellulose and recycled plastic end caps, needs to be replaced at each service interval, which reduces the amount of oil wasted by approximately 90 per cent compared to conventional spin-on filters. The filter element, which contains no metal, can also be disposed of by incineration.

The spin-on replacement filter consists of enameled sheet steel filter housing, threaded steel plates, valves, springs and elastomer gaskets, while the filter element is made of cellulose with sheet metal end caps and sealing compound. To get some idea of the resulting load on the environment, just remember that more than one billion conventional “spin-on” filters are replaced worldwide each year, and the scope of the potential savings in terms of resources becomes apparent

An additional benefit is that the process of replacing the oil filter in the shop is faster and cleaner. The special design and ease of access significantly reduce the amount of work involved, which benefits both the service technician and the vehicle owner. Ecological solutions can also help to achieve economic objectives, which is why the vehicle manufacturer itself places so much emphasis on the advantages of the ENERGETIC® system. Hengst considers this innovation part of its contribution to actively helping vehicle manufacturers realise the goals of the German Altfahrzeugverordnung [or End-of-life Vehicle Regulations].
