The pilot bearing is a ball bearing which supports the gearbox input shaft. Hence, it is essential for the clutch engagement. In case of an angular offset caused by wear, the shaft is displaced. As a consequence, the clutch might be destroyed.
If you replace the clutch, please check the pilot bearing and replace it as well, if necessary. ZF Trading offers pilot bearings for all common car models.
